Team Vs Individual Sports

A couple of you have had a go at persuading me to agree with your opinion but so far I'm not convinced. Have a look at these links and see if you can argue your case more strongly. Read both sides of the argument. Both articles make valid points. Which do you agree with most strongly? If you haven't yet posted a comment see if you can write a more persuasive argument than the others.
Benefits of playing a team sport
Benefits of playing an individual sport

...and next time it's your turn to do the research!

  2. I think that team sports and individual sports are both good, team sports are good because you meet new people and socialise and individual sports are good because you are in charge of yourself and not as much pressure is on you if you lose or make a mistake.

Overall I still think team sports are better than indivdual ones because when you train you are have support from your teammates, but in individual sports their is many things that can motivate you, but in team sports your teammates are there and it would help you be more competitive. In individual sports it would be easier to slack off and not train if your coach is only training one person, and team sports help if you are shy, research by Leanne Findlay and Robert Coplan show that kids were not as shy after a year of team sports. 3. I think that playing a team sport is better because it benefits more than one person being the whole team instead of just one person like in individual. It helps you in health and in the future as research has shown that that you are less likely to take drugs when you are older and less likely to have an abusive relationship.
It also reduces obesity and kids are more likely to participate in a team sport as there is a friendly enviroment and you are able to be with friends and other people of your physical ability.Participating in a team sport also reduces stress. In individual sport you may start to develop ignorance or selfishness as you have not learnt to share but with a team sport you have to share with the other team members in most activities.Leanne Findlay and Robert Coplan of Carleton University found that shy kids who participated in a team sport had a higher self esteem and reduced anxiety. So all up i think team sport is much better than an individual sport.

  4. I believe that playing in an individual sport is better than playing a team sport. I agree with many of the points made out in the article written by A.Soutn in the link above. A good example that was used was when somebody competes in a an event such as a cross country, it doesn't completely eliminate team play by getting individual results and compiling them for the team score. This can be a case similar for various other sports or events.
Another reason is that people who aren't the best in sports, such as me, will find it easier to gain and learn skills at our level. So somebody who succeeds in sport could continue at their own level, likewise with someone with not being so skilled.
I am not saying that there should be NO team sports, its good for you socially, but in order to learn and succeed in sports the best you can, playing individual sports are better.

  5. I think that playing a team sport is not as good as a individual sport as there are more confidence building sports in that area, like the extreme sports, base jumping, mountain climbing and so on.Individual sports like fishing and kayaking are also good for confidence and strength. You could also do these types of sports can also do these in groups.

As for team sports your confidence may not build up as much, this lowers self esteme.Overal individual sports are better.

  6. A South (from the link above)think that individual sports are better because of the many reasons that will help you grow and succeed which I will agree with because, individual sports teaches you to keep trying and not counting on someone else in the team to pick up the slack.
Another reason I would perfer individual sports is because of the sense of acomplishment and you can look back and say I did that, nobody helped me and I feel good which will build there self on steam.
also in school with team sports after graduation getting in a team is usually quite difficult where in individual sports you can continue on your own or enter in public competitions which will allow you continue in sports.

  7. I think team sports are better because you can:
    Lose weight
    Get Fit
    Make Friends
and also most of colleges and high schools have team sports and you get more of a chance of graduating.

    Take this saying:
Commitment to the team - there is no such thing as in-between, you are either in our out.
    -- Pat Riley
As this is true as if you are in a team you have made a commitment you are in or out there is no I in team so make sure you know what you are doing.

Mostly never give up because if you give up you just don't let your self down you let your whole team down so over all team sport is better and you do join make sure you know what challenges you face ahead.

  8. i think that individual sports are better because no one is stopping you from doing your best. in team sports such as soccer and netball you cant show people what youre really made of. You feel left out because there is ALWAYS the one who is doing the most. Individual sports also do help you lose weight and all that just as much as the team sports. If I had to choose it would be by urself sports cuas its all about me and it doesnt matter how well the other guys play and i am quite selfish but some other people do preffeer to play team sports caus they tend to build more social skills but for loners like me i like 2 stand out a bit.
    my main reason is that:
you feel more confident and proud of yourself becuase you dont feel out; it's nice to know you can achieve something independently and ofcourse it makes you feel more independant and thats what you need for a job, unless you do want to play a team sport. sorry if i sound stupid
... but team sports aren't bad.
