Each week we start with a Writing Burst. We spend just seven minutes writing a personal response to a statement or story starter.....

One of our learning intentions is to analyse inconsistency or inaccuracy of content between texts. We will know we are successful when we can identify differences between various texts and give possible explanations for these differences.
We read several reviews of the movie "The Sorceror's Apprentice." We compared these reviews to meet this learning intention. The following links will take you to our work.

Book Reviews

What are you reading at the moment? On the right are some really great books for older kids. If you have read a book you'd like to recommend to others send me the title and author and a brief synopsis. I'll add it to the list.

Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden
Seven Australian teenagers go on a camping trip in the deep bush, oblivious to the fact that their country has been invaded. Ellie and all her friends battle through the war dealing with love and death and making it as hard as possible for the enemy. With help from the New Zealanders along the way they make new friends and lose old ones, battling with memories of BTW (Before the War.) A great book for all Australian and New Zealand kids and teenagers. (contributed by Jordan)

Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne
This powerful book about the Holocaust stands out in part because of the unusual perspective: It's told through the eyes of the 9-year-old son of the commandant at Auschwitz, a boy who has no clue as to what is going on around him.
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
A city boy is stranded in the Canadian wilderness, equipped with nothing but a hatchet and the clothes on his back. Readers get a riveting view of Brian's struggle to survive for the next two months, forever changing his attitude.
